Disposal of the water could be accomplished by discharging to a wastewater <br /> treatment facility or to a storm drainage system The groundwater quality would have <br /> ' to meet the limits imposed by the facility owner for discharge to a wastewater <br /> treatment facility or meet the requirements established by the National Pollutant <br /> Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) for discharge to the storm drainage system <br /> The Stockton Service Center is not directly served by a storm drain so discharge to <br /> the storm drainage system may not be readily implementable <br /> 6.2 Potential Remedial Alternatives <br /> ' Based on the analysis of the available technologies, air stripping, air sparging, <br /> and in situ bioremediation, appear to be most applicable to the site These <br /> ' technologies have been developed into the following three remedial alternatives and <br /> are discussed in detail as follows An evaluation of these alternatives is presented on <br /> ' Table 7 <br /> 6.2.1 Alternative 1 Extraction/Air StrippmglDischarge <br /> ' A groundwater extraction well would be installed to remove contaminated <br /> groundwater from the aquifer MW-1 and MW-8 could be used as extraction wells <br /> Because MW-1 is a 2-inch diameter well, it would have to be destroyed and replaced <br /> by a larger well to be used as an extraction well Alternatively, a new well could be <br /> installed near MW-1 to serve as an extraction well The size of the plume appears <br /> to be small enough to be addressed by one extraction well, but aquifer tests would <br /> be required to confirm this and to properly design the well and pump Once the <br /> ' groundwater is pumped from the formation, the water would be passed through an <br /> onsite air stripper The air stripper would be equipped with and off-gas system to <br /> control emissions The treated groundwater would then be reinfected to the aquifer <br /> through an infection well MW-1 or MW-8, the well that is not used for extraction, <br /> could be used as the infection well This well may require reconfiguration to provide <br /> for efficient injection If reinfection is not consistent with regulatory requirements, <br /> then an alternative disposal method would be required, such as discharge to a storm <br /> ' drain if the residual Ievels are in accordance with the NPDES requirements, or to a <br /> local treatment facility if the residual levels are in accordance with facility <br /> ' requirements Discharge to the storm drainage system does not appear to be readily <br /> implementable at this site Monitoring wells within the plume boundaries would be <br /> required to provide effective monitoring of the remediation Treatment using air <br /> ' 93R22 East Bay Municipal Utility District <br /> 40429500 asa 17 Stockton Svc Ctr Site Assessment/RemedLal Options <br /> 1 <br />
