known UST to those at the site is located at Pep Boys (an auto service facility). This UST is
located about 250 feet south of BP, contains used oil and is reportedly three to four years old.
2.2 History
San Joaquin County Public Health Services files were examined in order to learn more about
the site. The following information was learned at that time:
• BP Station 11190 was acquired from Mobile Oil in 1989. The age of the station
is uncertain but is estimated to be 10 to 15 years.
The station has four single wall fiberglass USTs (Figure 2):
• Tank No. 1 - 12,000 gallons unleaded
• Tank No. 2 - 10,000 gallons unleaded
• Tank No. 3 - 6,000 gallons leaded
• Tank No. 5 - 1,000 gallons diesel
A fifth tank (Tank No. 4) located just northwest of the station building was removed in 1987.
This was a used oil tank. Soil from the bottom of the tank excavation contained no r
hydrocarbons at the level of detection (San Joaquin County Health Department records).
Inspection records note that tanks 2 and 5 have failed pressure tests and that the diesel fuel
dispenser (located on the eastern end of the outer pump island) had a cracked impact housing
dispenser. On the basis of these results, an Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized Release
(leak) Contamination Site Report was filed in December 1988 with San Joaquin County
Public Health Services.
3.0 Soil Quality Assessment
3.1 Scope of Work
A pre-construction soil quality assessment was initiated in order to quantify the amount of
soils containing hydrocarbons that may be encountered during tank removal activities. The
work scope employed:
- t«,o borinbs to a depth of t«,enty feet
- one boring to a depth of forty-five feet
MA/8-12-91/ENG/9284MER 2
