INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION
• Tank No. 3 - 6,000 gallons leaded - 91507880
• Tank No. 5 - 6,000 gallons diesel - 91507880
Copies of the rinsate and tank manifests are contained in Appendix C.
2.1.2 Verification Soil Sampling
As established by the Regional Board Staff Recommendations for Initial Evaluation and
Investigation of Underground Tanks, two native soil samples were collected from beneath
tanks with volumes of 1,000 to 10,000 gallons (tanks 2, 3 and 5). Three native soil samples
_ were collected from beneath tanks with volumes greater than 10,000 gallons (tank 1). Soil
samples were collected from the excavation following removal of the fill material (Appendix
D). The soil samples were collected using a decontaminated brass sleeve inserted in a split
spoon sampler with attached slide hammer. A backhoe was used to bring soil to the ground
surface for sampling. The outer three inches of disturbed soil was removed and the sampler
was driven into the soil in the backhoe bucket.
During sampling efforts, the sampler was decontaminated prior to collection of each sample
as follows: a water rinse, a detergent scrubbing, a methanol rinse and a final water rinse.
The brass sleeves were precleaned by the supplier.
Upon collection, the soil samples were removed from the sampler, and sample tube ends were
immediately sealed with aluminum foil and plastic end caps to prevent the loss of volatile
compounds. The sample tubes were labeled, enclosed in plastic bags and stored in a
refrigerated ice chest. Samples were delivered by courier to Precision Analytical Laboratory
for analysis.
Samples were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline and diesel,
benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene (BTEX) by EPA Methods 5030, DHS luft and
8020, respectively, and for total lead by 3050/6010 and EDB by 8010.
2.1.3 UST Soil Stockpile Sampling
Soils excavated during removal of the USTs on October 30, 1991 were stockpiled for future
disposal. On November 4 and 5, 1991 twenty soil samples were collected from random
locations (Appendix D) by driving the sampler directly into the stockpile. Samples were
analyzed by the same methods listed in Section 2.1.2 above by Med Tox Associates, Inc. To
comply with self certification procedures, four discreet soil samples were additionally
collected and analyzed by B & C Analytical for Title 22, LC50 fish toxicity test (96 hr.) and
MZ/OI-06-92/UST/0054MER 3
