INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION
by Med Toa for STLC (soluble threshold limit concentration) metals (wet scan) EPA method
6010.
2.1.4 Sample Analysis - UST Excavation & UST Stockpile
Upon analysis, samples from the tank excavation revealed trace concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons only (Table IA). Analysis of the stockpile revealed low concentrations of
diesel fuel in all samples and gasoline in only one. All metals were below STLC levels and
— the bioassay results were >750 mg/L (Table 1B). Based on analytical results, the soils were
determined to be non-hazardous.
2.1.5 Soil Stockpile Disposal - UST
Approximately 1,200 tons of soil (includes piping stockpile) were transported from the site on
November 18, 19, and 20, 1991 by Conrad and Sons Trucking (under subcontract with
Paradiso Construction) to the BFI landfill in Livermore, California. Copies of all non-
hazardous special waste manifests are included in Appendix E.
2.1.6 Excavation Backfill - UST
Permission to backfill the excavation was given by County Environmental Health Specialist
-- Mike Infurna on november 13, 1991. Backfilling and compaction (conducted November 12 -
15, 1991) was witnessed and inspected by a representative of Testing Engineers, Inc. A copy
of the inspection report is included in Appendix F.
2.2 Former UST Pipelines
2.2.1 Piping Removal and Disposal
The piping associated with the USTs and dispenser islands was removed on November 4,
1991 by representatives of the Paradiso Construction Company. Environmental Health
Specialists, Letitia Resch and Mike Infuma, were present to witness the removal. No staining
was encountered beneath the piping; however, hydrocarbon odor was noted near the northwest
end of the northern dispenser island (see Appendix D). Over excavation was recommended
and witnessed by Mike Infuma as discussed in the IT work plan addendum of October 3,
1991 (Appendix G).
The pipelines were transported on November 19, 1991 by H & H Ship Service Company,
under manifest #91507368, to their facility in San Francisco for disposal. A copy of the
manifest in included in Appendix H.
MZI01-06-92JCJSTi0054MER 4
