fenced and has an open pit where underground tanks have been removed A record,review of <br /> County files indicates that there is an outstanding request for further characterization at this site <br /> We understand that there was significant contamination encountered during the tank removal <br /> The northwest corner is reported to be the site of a former Shell service station The property <br /> is presently an open field with no indication of prior use A review of County records did not <br /> produce any information about this property This site closure was reportedly conducted prior <br /> to UST requirements <br /> The southwest corner is reported to be an abandoned Arco Gasoline Service Station The <br /> property is fenced A review of agency files did not produce any information about this <br /> property A discussion with County staff yielded a recollection that the property owner had been <br /> queried about the presence of underground tanks and had informed the County that all tanks had <br /> been removed No venfication was apparently provided and no follow-up was performed This <br /> closure also was apparently completed prior to UST closure regulations <br /> 3.0 WORKPLAN <br /> Park has developed a scope of work to address the terms outlined in the letter, from the <br /> PHSIEHD dated January 4, 1993 The proposed scope of work was summarized in Section 12, <br /> and selected assessment activities are further described in the following sections <br /> 3.1 Utility Survey <br /> Prior to conducting any subsurface investigations Underground Service Alert will be notified to <br /> locate any utilities entering the site This will serve to assess any potential drilling obstructions <br /> beneath the subject site and enhance the assessment of man-made structures potentially acting <br /> ' as conduits for migration of contaminants <br /> 3.2 Soil Borings <br /> Three soil borings will be drilled to total depths of approximately 85 feet b s or 10 feet below <br /> first groundwater for soil sampling and installation of groundwater monitoring wells The <br /> tlocations of the groundwater monitoring wells will be off-site in up-gradient, dawn-gradient and <br /> northwesterly directions from the site These proposed locations are shown on Figure 2 Actual <br /> boring locations will be selected when field work commences <br /> Soil borings will be advanced using a truck mounted drill ng with hollow-stem continuous flight <br /> augers The augers will be steam cleaned prior to drilling each boring The lithology and other <br /> ' pertinent data will be recorded on a field boring log in accordance with the Unified Soil <br /> Classification System (USCS) <br /> Soil cuttings from the borings will be placed in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums until evaluated <br /> I <br /> A 1!2572 WP 4 <br /> I <br /> I <br />
