•
3s a private well loca-Eed on the BJJ Co. property, about 250
feet south of the site of Husks Crane 's removed UST 's, but no
details are available. A recent review of the County EHD files
on the DJJ site show that there is a groondwater monitoring we11
an the property in the area between the main building and a
storage shed. It was placed to evaluate possible contamination
from a waste tri1 tank which was located beneath the building and
was abandoned in place. Water samples taken in ,Janraa,ry, 1991 ,
shortly after placement of the tank revealed the presence of
ethylbenzene, xylene, and TPH as gasoline. Analysis of water
taken in January, 1897, revealed that BTEX a, TFH-G were present.
However, water samples taken in January °< Apr-1 1 , 1994, were below
detection limits for BTEX & TPH-G.
As a result of those latest tests , it was inferred that the
hydraulic gradient is to the west-southwest , and a workplan was
prepared to place an additional well on the property to the south
of the waste oil tank The ;work was scheduled for the ween of
July 25, 19V4; the files did not have an,/ information concerning
the status of that proposed work.
There is also a private well on the Husky property 200 feet
southesterl y from the tank site; a review of company records did
not produce any information concerning pump depth , perforated
intervals, or capacity. The well is used to provide water for
company operations_
PRIOR USAGE OF THE REMOVED TANKS
The 500 'Zc 1 ,000 gallon UST s had both contained gasoline for use
in fueling company vehicles and heavy equipment. They had been
installed prior to the current owners ' purchase of the property
in 1984, and no records are available concerning installation
date (s) or usage prior to that time. The pump island and tans-s
were removed by company personel sometime prior to May, 199? ;
there are no records an the removal or di spo,_i ti on of the tanks.
.
and the work was not permitted or witnessed by County personel .
SUMMARY OF PRIOR INVESTIGATIVE WORK
On September 5, 1991 , Husky Crane, Inc. submitted an Application
for Underground Tank Closure Fermit to the San Joaquin Co. EHD,
(Exhibit I1,) for one ( 1 ) 504 gallon and one ( 1 ) 1 ,000 gal. 1on
gasoline tank. As noted above, the tangs had been removed in
1986 or 19271y but that work had not been witnessed b r Sass Joaquin
Co. personel .
On October 15, 1991 , the site of the removed USI ' s was entered,
