0 0
and three (1) soil samples were taken: one at 14 bgl from the
north end of the former tank site, one at 14 ' bq1 from the south
end, and the 1rd one at b bgl from the east side, adjacent to
the BJJ Co. property line. A composite sample was also taken
from the removed spoil pale, which was temporazly stared on the
northwest side of the oxcavataon. The samples from the north
side (HC-IN, ) and the south side (HC-2S, ) were analyzed for 8TEY ,
TFH--G, TFH--D, total lead , and priority polutants. The sample
from the east side (HC--3E, ) was analvaed only for TEM. The
c_ompasi to sample from the spoil pile was -tesred for PTEA{ , TR=H---E,
TFPH, and total lead.
Laboratory results revealed that BTEX & volatile organics were
below detection limits in all samples, but TFH--G, TPH--D,, motor
oil , and total lead were present in most of the samples, refer ro
Plate VI. The removed spoil was returned to the hole pending
+urther word:. Exhibit E includes copse o of County EHD field
notes during the investigative work , and Exhibit G contains
copies of the lab results.
On November 1P, 1991 , Geological Audit Services, Inc _ submitted a
workplan to the County EHD for excavation I removal of the
contaminated soil from the site; (refer to Exhibit F. ) That
workplan was not implemented, and no word; has been done on the
site since October of 1991 .
In June, 1992, Wm. J. Hunter & Associates were retained by Husky
Crane to revxeo I analyze the prior work , and prepare a workplan
for delineating the vertical & lateral e- tent of the contamina-
tion encountered during the work in October, 1991 . The site of
the removed UST s is immediately adjacent to the Flush y Crane--BJJ
Co. property line as shown on Plate VI. 05 mentioned Parker, an
observation well has recently been placed can BJJ property to
monitor possible groundwater contamination caused by a 7500
gallon fuel tank which as located beneath a building and could
not be removed. Soil bars ngs beneath that tank- showed signifi-
cant
agnzfr--
cant levels of contaminants, and a water sample taken from the
monitoring well in December 1991 revealed 25 ppb gasoline.
Laboratory analyses of water samples taken from that well in 1994
were below detection limits, indicating that the hydraulic gra-
dient may be to the west-southwest at that location. For that
reason, an additional monitoring well has been permstteo on the
property southwest of the buried tank to ersfy that belief .
besides the existing UST, there were two (2) above-ground gaso-
line tanks on the 8JJ site about Std feet northeasterly from the
location cif the removed tanks on the Husky Crane property. Those
tanks were recently removed and replaced with UST s in the same
4
