I-Aw `W."
28 January 1993
(GeoAudit 652-5)
PROPOSED ASSESSMENT and SAMPLING
GeoAudit proposes to perform a soil drilling and sampling program
to determine to what extent the operation of the underground
storage facility has negatively impacted the soil. Four borings
will be installed in the area of tank pit 1. The soil sample
collected from beneath the waste oil tank (tank pit 2) indicated
only small concentrations of TPH as diesel and BTE&X contamination.
Therefore, GeoAudit does not feel that a soil boring in this area
is warranted.
To meet project objectives, the following activities will be
performed:
1) Prepare a site health and safety plan in accordance with the
Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous
Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, October 1985.
2) Notify the EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
3) Drill four vertical borings to a depth of 30 feet utilizing a
hollow-stem auger drill rig. The estimated boring locations
are depicted on Figure 2 - Site Plan.
4) Obtain discrete soil samples every five feet using a sampler
loaded with three pre-cleaned brass tubes.
5) Preserve soil samples in the lead brass tube by covering both
ends with aluminum sheets, capping and sealing with tape.
6) Label and log soil samples on a chain of custody form.
7) Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a
chilled container to a State certified laboratory for
analysis.
8) Analyze selected soil samples (approximately 8 - 10) for total
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline and diesel) and BTE&X
in accordance with EPA methods 8015 and 8020, respectively.
Selected soil sample may also be analyzed for total lead (EPA
7420)
9) Decontaminate sampling equipment in a tri-sodium phosphate
solution (TSP) and rinse twice with water prior to each
sampling run.
