28 January 1993
(GeoAudit 652-S)
10) Monitor auger returns and soil sample duplicates for the
presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization
detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
11) Log auger returns and soil samples in accordance with the
Unified Soil Classification System.
12) Place auger returns on plastic sheeting and store on-site
pending analytical results.
13) Backfill the borings using concrete-bentonite slurry in the
entire depth of the borings.
14) Submit a site investigation report detailing the results of
the work to the SJEHD.
Communication with the PHS/EHD indicates that the depth to
groundwater in the Spring of 1986 was approximately 45 feet. If
field screening indicates that contamination is present at or near
the 40 foot depth, at least one boring will be advanced to current
groundwater (approximately 70 - 80 feet) . This boring will be
immediately converted to a groundwater monitoring well. The
following procedures will be followed:
15) Complete the boring as a groundwater monitoring well in
accordance with the design shown in Figure 3 .
16) No sooner than 48 hours after installation, measure to the
nearest 0. 01 foot, the static water level in each well
relative to the top of the well casing.
17) Surge and purge the wells using a bailer or submersible pump
and measure water temperature, pH, and conductivity at one-
gallon intervals.
18) Contain purged water in 55 gallon DOT drums and store on-site
pending analytical results.
19) After water parameters have stabilized, collect a water sample
from each well in 1-liter amber bottles and EPA-approved VOA
vials capped with teflon-faced silicone septum.
20) Label and log water samples on a chain-of-custody form.
21) Store water samples on ice pending delivery to a state-
certified laboratory.
