Ceologicaf?echnics Inc. Page 2
Project No.: 675.2.
Murray
Septic Investigation Report
January 22, 1999
6. It was decided to dig down into the soil beneath the drain pipe with the backhoe and
collect samples near the fence and near the septic tank. DP-1 was collected near the fence
and 3 feet below the drain pipe. DP-2 was collected near the septic tank and 4 feet below
the drain pipe.
7. The samples were submitted to Sherwood labs and tested for volatile organic compounds
by EPA method 8240.
i
3.0 ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Both samples were non-detect for all the compounds on the 8240 list. The lab data reports
are attached in Appendix A.
4.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
4.1 Conclusions
Given the data gathered during the previous soil testing event and this soil testing, presented
above, Geological Technics Inc. concludes that: j
1. The septic tank for the floor drains appear to have been used to dispose of waste products
during a previous operation. Kimball Fiberglass Corp.. reportedly operated at the site in
the past. Much of the debris in the drains and septic tank were fiberglass pieces.
2. There does not appear to have been a rock well or leach line for the septic tank. It
appears that it was intended to use the drain pipe as the leach line since it was surrounded
with drain rock. ,11~l pP6 ✓
3. The compounds found in the septic tank, Ethyl Benzene and Trichlorofluoromethane, are
bound up in the fiberglass residues in the septic tank and drain line and have not migrated
into the soil.
4.2 Recommendations
Given the conclusions listed above, Geological Technics Inc. makes the following
recommendations.
Floor Drain
• The floor drains inside the building should be filled with concrete so materials cannot
be disposed of in them in the future.
Septic Tank
• The septic tank should be dug up and removed..
• The contents of the septic tank should be removed by a hazardous waste contractor
• This material should be disposed of in an appropriate manner at Forward Landfill
Drain Line
• The drain line and drain rock that is covered with the white material should be dug up
and disposed of in the same manner as the material in the septic tank.
i
