I' Soil Remediation Summary Report
Site.Code 2226,Economy Fence Company
2004 E.Mariposa Rd., Stockton,CA
September 29, 1992
Page 2
Based upon the low levels of hydrocarbon constituents detected from native soil beneath_the tank
and the condition of the tank at the time of removal, it`was initially estimated that less than 20
cubic yards-of hydrocarbon impacted soil remained in place.
I
FIELD ACTIVITIES
Excavation.
On August 24, 1992, suspected hydrocarbon impacted soils were excavated by Economy.Fence
Company utilizing a backhoe tractor to perform the excavation. This work was performed by
Economy Fence Company personnel in accordance with the Business and Profession Code,
Division.3, Chapter 9, Article 3, Exemptions, on file with the PHS/EHD.
The 12 by 14 feet excavation proceeded to a depth of approximately 10 feet below grade to
ensure all suspected hydrocarbon impacted soils were removed from the former underground
storage tank location.
Excavated soils were field screened by RESNA personnel who were present in a consulting
capacity, utilizing a photoionization detection (PID) meter, calibrated-to an isobutylene standard
to detect volatile organic vapors. No hydrocarbon impacted soils were detected by PID readings
f
and field observations (i.e., odor, discoloration).
Excavated soils were stockpiled on site, covered, and underlain by 6 mil plastic sheeting pending
j results of laboratory analysis.
Confirmation Sampling
To verify source removal, five confirmation soil samples were collected by RESNA personnel
under the regulatory guidance of Michael M. Collins of the PHSIEHD. One sample was
collected from the excavation floor at approximately 10 feet below grade, and four were
collected from the. sidewalls-at approximately 8 feet below grade (Figure 3). In addition, one
2 to 1 composite sample was collected from the excavated soil for characterization. Samples
were placed on ice and transported under chain-of-custody protocol to State-certified RESNA
Laboratories in Fremont, California, and analyzed for BTEX and TPHG utilizing EPA methods
8020 and modified .8015, respectively. No analytes were present in detectable concentrations,
in any sample. Laboratory results are summarized on Table 2. Laboratory reports and chain-of-
custody documentation are included in Attachment I.
LFTTERSISRSR9292.DRF
f4
1
