proper operation. The daily facility inspection logs have been expanded to clarify the
tank inspection requirements. See attached inspection log.
#45 The contingency plan has been updated. See attached.
#49 Name and job title of each employee have been updated in the training records. See
attached job summaries for each employee.
#83 This issue was corrected on site during the inspection. A proper Universal Waste label
for alkaline batteries was adhered to the drum of batteries. (The drum in question has
since been shipped to our recycler; see attached picture for example of label.)
Notes: Automotive batteries are labeled as Hazardous Waste. Our contractor uses a program
to generate pre-filled labels, which was printing "Universal Waste" labels with the
automotive battery description in error. Staff had been instructed to cross out the
"Universal Waste" heading and replace it with "Hazardous Waste' until the issue was
corrected, which lead to some confusion. This error has since been corrected and
labels with the proper Hazardous Waste heading are used for automotive batteries.
Fire extinguishers used to be sent to a hazardous waste incinerator for disposal; they
are now sent to a recycling facility for reclamation.
If you have any questions, please contact me at 468-3066 or kandrews@sjgov.org.
Sincerely,
KIMBRA ANDREWS/ Management Analyst
KA:sc
P:\HHW\HHW Facilities\PHHWCF\operations\CUPA\2011\080311PHHWCF Insp rtc.doc
Attachments
HA 80008D
