("Clayton")has prepared this report on behalf of Shell Oil Products
' US (Shell) to present the information gathered during recent investigations of the former Shell
Oil Central Valley Crude Pipelines referenced above. This summary report documents these
activities.
I2.0 SITE BACKGROUND.
' An approximately 3,200-foot lineal section of the pipeline route crosses Parcel 209-06-08,
running from near the northwest corner for the parcel, off of Grant Line Road,to near the
southeast comer, near the intersection of Mountain House Parkway and Von Sosten Road(the
' site). The property is located on the southwest comer of the intersection of Mountain House
Parkway and Grant Line Road, northwest of Tracy, California(Figures 1, 2). Shell operated two
8-inch diameter pipelines that carried crude oil from the Central Valley to the Bay Area. The
Ipipelines ran in a northwest-southeast direction through farmed properties and were buried at an
average depth of approximately three feet below ground surface (bgs). Parcel 209-06-08 is
owned by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Lillian Machado and has been in use as a dairy. The property
I • lies within Neighborhood B of the proposed Mountain House development, which will be
bounded by Grant Line Road to the north, Mountain House Parkway to the east, Central Parkway
to the west, and will extend southward to the vicinity of Highway 205.
The site is located in the central valley, at the foot of the eastern edge of the Coast Ranges. Soils
underlying the site consist of sands, silts, and clays, deposited as alluvial fans. Based on the
I surface topography, and the location of the site, as well as information from other portions of the
Mountain House Development, groundwater flow is anticipated to be northeasterly to easterly.
I3.0 SITE ACTIVITIES SUMMARY
This section outlines the details of the various investigative activities performed at the site. A
brief chronology of events is outlined below, followed by more detail regarding the activities.
• August 6,2004—Clayton issued workplan for delineation along the approximately 8,400
feet of former pipelines at the site, including approximately 3,200 feet of the pipeline
alignment on the Machado property(Parcel 209-16-08) and approximately 5,200 feet of
the former pipeline alignment north of Grant Line Road.
I • August 8,2004—Clayton obtained Right of Entry agreements between Shell and Mr. and
Mrs. Machado for Parcel 209-06-08. However, access to the Machado property was
I denied at the time of the investigation of the pipeline alignment within Neighborhoods C
and D (north of Grant Line Road), performed in October 2004, pending clarification of
certain terms of the access agreement.
1
I5\EMPROIBC 001105759 ShcII Mountain NoaadWeigh b,c,&Ncighb B\Neigh 8 Rcpod\B suns nary rc,na c
