Mr. Anthony Mattioli Page 2 of 2
Wilson Way Tire Company, Inc. January 28, 2014
1987 UST Removal
mg/kg, toluene <0.1 mg/kg, ethylbenzene <0.2 mg/kg, total xylenes <0.1 mg/kg, EDB<0.01
mg/kg, and lead<10 mg/kg.
In December 1991, the EHD evaluated your site for case closure or requiring corrective action.
By letter dated 03 January 1992, the EHD indicated that then current "standards, laboratory
detection limits and/or your site specific characteristics (i.e. depth to seasonal high groundwater,
nearby wells, septic systems) make it impossible for PHS/EHD to evaluate your site for closure."
As reported in the Phase I Report, a groundwater monitoring well was installed in the sidewalk
adjoining the subject site to characterize and monitor groundwater impacted by an unauthorized
release from a UST system on another site, in this case the site at 102 S. Wilson Way,
Stockton. The groundwater monitored in the screened zone 55 to 75 feet bsg has been
periodically impacted by TPHg, BTEX and MTBE. The impact to groundwater in MW-10 was
attributed to the release on the 102 S. Wilson Way site. The EHD concurs with Boles'
assessment of the data that "it appears that contamination from offsite sources are (sic)
potentially impacting the deep groundwater beneath the subject property".
The EHD has reevaluated your site characteristics and data and has determined that your site
qualifies for case closure with the available data. No indications of an unauthorized release from
your former UST system were noted during its removal, such as elevated PID readings or visibly
stained or odoriferous soil. Laboratory analysis of the soil sample collected under EHD
supervision was not impacted by chemicals of concern at concentrations exceeding reporting
limits adequate for your site characteristics. Contaminants in groundwater beneath the site
appear to be related to unauthorized releases on other sites.
Provided that the information and interpretations provided to the EHD are accurate and that no
new information is developed that contradicts that which has been provided, and that the site
circumstances do not materially change, the EHD has determined that no further action is
required relative to the former 1,000-gallon UST system removed from your site in October
1987. This case closure does not include any other environmental conditions that may exist on
the subject property.
Questions and comments can be addressed to Nuel Henderson, PG, at (209) 468-3436 or at
nhenderson(o-)sicehd.com.
Sincerely, f
VYG K z— F—
Donna Heran, REHS
Director
C James L.L. Barton, CVRWQCB, 11020 Sun Center Dr., Ste 200, Rancho Cordova, CA
95670
