r
Larkspur Estates
Soil Sampling
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
M.J. Kloberdanz & Associates had proposed to drill up to 3 Geoprobe borings to a
maximum depth of 25 feet in the Larkspur Estates development. Groundwater was
expected to be encountered at 10 to 15 feet in depth as reported in areas to the north and
east of the project site. Groundwater and soil sampling was proposed for this phase of
work.
Boring B-1 was drilled in the area of Lot 108 to a depth of 36 feet. Groundwater was not
encountered during the boring and gravel and cobbles precluded drilling deeper at this
location. Soil was collected from the 4 foot sample tube near the 32 foot depth because
gravel was packed in the tube from 33 to 36 feet in depth.
Boring B-2 was drilled east of lot 104 to a depth of 12 feet before drill refusal. No water
was encountered and no soil sample was collected. The Geoprobe drill had to be partially
dug out of the tight gravel.
Boring B-3 was drilled 30 feet south of boring B-2 in a gully approximately 12 feet
below project grade. This boring was advanced to 32 feet, 44 feet below project grade,
and was terminated because of cobbles and gravel. No water was encountered so a soil
sample was collected at this depth.
Both soil samples were non-detect for TEPH oil, diesel & kerosene, BTEX and Oil &
Grease. Soil samples were not collected for geological interpretation.
2.1 Drilling
Permits were obtained, as necessary, for the borings before drilling began. The soil
borings were accomplished using a mobile mounted Geoprobe® Systems drilling
rig, Model 5400, employing the use of a 1.25" and 2.25" hollow probe rods. The
contractor conducting the drilling possesses a valid C-57 license and proof of
workman's compensation insurance.
All drilling equipment was thoroughly steam cleaned before drilling began to
prevent the introduction of contamination from off site, and between borings to
prevent cross contamination.
The borings were not logged. All borings were drilled in such a manner as to
prevent cross contamination between strata. Water samples were not obtained and
the borings were terminated with a cement mixture.
2.2 Soil Sampling
All soil sampling equipment was thoroughly cleaned before and between sampling
to prevent cross contamination. Relatively undisturbed soil samples were taken at
intervals of not more than five feet (5) in order to screen subsurface materials for
contaminants.
2
