lVerps"OnIFINC.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Versar, Inc. (Versar) was retained by Bank of America to perform a Phase I
Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) at the Bank of America Ripon Branch No. 0852, located
at 234 West Main Street in Ripon, California(Site). The purpose of this Phase I ESA was to
investigate and evaluate the environmental condition of the Site and surrounding properties to
identify the presence or likely presence of any hazardous substances or petroleum products on
the Site that could adversely affect property use and/or value or give rise to potential liability to a
government agency or private party. Versar issued a"Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment"
report on April 24, 1997. During the Phase I ESA, Versar identified former Site uses that could
adversely affect the property.
On May 16, 1997, Versar conducted a subsurface investigation to further investigate
conditions reported in the Phase I ESA conducted at the Site. The purpose of the investigation
was to assess whether any hydrocarbons from former facilities located at the Site identified
during Versar's Phase I ESA, are present in soil or groundwater at the Site.
The following summarizes the findings of Versar's soil and groundwater investigation at
the Site.
• Metals detected in the groundwater at the Site are below the California Department
of Health Services' (DHS) Primary Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL) for
drinking water.
• Metal concentrations in the soil samples are consistent with the United States
Geological Survey's (USGS) published background levels for the area.
• The groundwater downgradient of the former automobile repair facility contains low
concentrations of diesel-range petroleum hydrocarbons.
• The absence of constituents of concern in boreholes BH-3 and BH-4 suggests that
the low hydrocarbon concentrations are of limited extent in the Site area.
4583-97/3622-500/Jun30'97 ES-1
