AlFersconINC. <br /> 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> On May 16, 1997, Versar, Inc. (Versar) conducted a subsurface investigation to further <br /> investigate conditions reported in the Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) conducted <br /> at the Bank of America Ripon Branch No. 0852, located at 234 West Main Street in Ripon, <br /> California(Site). The investigation included collecting soil and groundwater samples from four <br /> soil boreholes to assess whether there were releases to soil or groundwater from the former uses <br /> associated with the Site. These former uses were identified in Versar's ESA report entitled <br /> Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Bank of America -Ripon Branch No. 0852, 234 West <br /> Main Street, Ripon, California 95366, dated April 24, 1997, and during a subsequent telephone <br /> interview with a local historian. The Site location and Site layout are shown on Figures 1 and 2, <br /> respectively. <br /> 1.1 Scope of Work <br /> The scope of work consisted of conducting a telephone interview with a local historical <br /> authority to locate possible release sources from former facilities or operations at the Site; and <br /> using information gathered during the interview and from a Sanborn fire insurance map, install <br /> boreholes at appropriate locations for the collection of soil and groundwater samples. The <br /> resulting borehole locations are shown on Figure 2. A copy of the Sanborn fire insurance map is <br /> included in Appendix A. Boreholes BH-1, BH-2, BH-3, and BH-4 were drilled southwest of and <br /> downgradient from auto repair facilities formerly located at the Site, to assess if there have been <br /> releases to soil or groundwater from former Site activities. Based on a review of a USGS <br /> topographic map of the Site area, the direction of groundwater flow was inferred to be to the <br /> southwest. <br /> 1.2 Site Location and Layout <br /> The Site is located at 234 West Main Street, Ripon, San Joaquin County, California. It is <br /> located approximately '/4 mile southwest of State Highway 99. The Site is currently utilized as <br /> Bank of America's Branch No. 0852. It consists of a two-story commercial office building with <br /> paved, street-level parking, and landscaped areas on 14,418 square feet of land. <br /> 1.3 Background <br /> On April 9, 1997, Versar was retained by Bank of America to perform a Phase I ESA at <br /> the Site. The adjoining and surrounding properties were also investigated to identify any off-site <br /> environmental issues that have the potential to impact the Site.
