May 4, 1993 Project No. EK-6032-2
' Document No. 9305-4002.RPT
' Three of the parcels are vacant and have a history of agricultural use. There is a possibility that
chlorinated pesticides were used in these areas and that some of them may persist.
' PURPOSE AND SCOPE
' The purpose of this reconnaissance-level investigation is to determine whether the subject
property's soil or groundwater contains diesel, gasoline or oil and grease hydrocarbons at
' concentrations in excess of recommended guidelines established by the San Joaquin County Public
Health Services, Environmental Health Division and to determine if organochlorine pesticides and
' PCB's, which are typically very persistent in shallow surface soils, are present at the site.
' ESE drilled exploratory borings along the northern and southern property boundaries between the
site and the two auto wrecking yards and on the northeast and southwest sides of the underground
diesel storage tank at the Thorsen Trucking, Inc. Soil samples collected during the drilling
' operations were analyzed at Sequoia Analytical, Inc., a State of California Department of Health
Services (DOHS) certified laboratory. Using a Hydropunch sampling device, groundwater
' samples were also collected at each location from within the shallow aquifer underlying the site.
The water samples were also submitted for laboratory analysis.
' The site assessment methods employed are in general accordance with regulations and guidelines
set forth in California Code of Regulations (CCR) Titles 22 and 23, the LUFT Field Manual
' (SWRCB, 1989), the California Site Mitigation Decision Tree Manual, Tri-Regional Board Staff
Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluation and Investigation of Underground Tank Sites, as
' well as accepted professional environmental/geotechnical engineering procedures and applicable
County of San Joaquin regulations.
' EXPLORATORY DRILLING, SOIL AND GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
' ESE drilled seven exploratory borings (B-1 through B-7, north to south) at the site after acquiring
boring permit numbers 93-0667, 93-0668 and 93-0669 from the San Joaquin County Public
' Health Services,Environmental Health Division. Underground Service Alert was utilized to help
locate any underground utilities in the vicinity of the drilling locations and none could be found.
1
1
2
1
