PROJECT OVERVIEW <br /> In November, 2003, Light, Air, and Space Construction (LA&S) a licensed General, Engineering, <br /> and Haz Mat Contractor entered into a Contract with Mr. Peter Dana to remove two (2) <br /> underground storage tanks (USTs) at 3731 Woodward Avenue in Manteca, California- The scope <br /> of work included the following items: <br /> 1. Obtain UST Removal Permits from the San Joaquin County Health Department and <br /> City of Manteca Fire Departments, notify the AQMD, and obtain an EPA number <br /> from the State DOHS. <br /> 2. Provide for the excavation and removal of the UST(s). <br /> 3. Inspect the UST(s)and piping for signs of leakage. <br /> 4. Obtain soil samples at the direction of the Health Inspector. Have the samples <br /> analyzed at a State Certified Laboratory. <br /> 5. Provide for the proper disposal of the UST(s)and related piping. <br /> S. Backfill the excavation with native or similar material. <br /> 7. Preparation and submittal of a UST Closure Report. <br /> i I <br /> SITE HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION <br /> The USTs were reported to be over twenty(20) years old. The USTs had not been used recently, <br /> although no date was available for their last useage. The subject property is a working farm. <br /> EXCAVATION AND REMOVAL OF TANK <br /> On December 20, 2004, excavations were begun at the location of the USTs. The excavations <br /> ' were advanced to a depth of eight feet (8.0') below the ground surface (bgs) along all sides of the <br /> USTs. There was no apparent odor or staining in the soil below and around the USTs. <br /> At 9:00 am on December 21, 2004, approximately(300) pounds of dry ice was placed in UST#1 <br /> (gasoline) and approximately(200) pounds of dry ice was placed in UST #2 (diesel). The County <br /> of San Joaquin Health Department Inspector(Raymond J. Von Flue) and the City of Manteca Fire <br /> Department Inspector (Randy Sutton) arrived at 11:00am and LEL and Oxygen readings were <br /> obtained by David Guthridge using a Gas-Techtor instrument.
