GeoStrategles Inc <br /> • UNOCAL Corporation <br /> September 11, 1992 <br /> Page 2 <br /> The site is located in a section of old Stockton The adjacent structures are <br /> constructed predominantly of brick or building block The site is underlain by <br /> dump material, predominantly bottles, glass, tin cans, building materials and <br /> backfill material from previous excavation/backfill activities <br /> Both of the USTs that contained gasoline were rusted and pitted with no visible <br /> holes or cracks The 280-gallon waste oil tank was rusted with three 1/2-inch <br /> diameter holes in the top of the tank The 130-gallon waste oil tank was rusted <br /> with numerous holes ranging to 3 inches in diameter in the top half of the <br /> tank The product piping appeared to be in good condition with no visible holes <br /> or cracks <br /> Field Methods and Procedures <br /> Soil samples were collected by pushing clean stainless steel sample tubes into <br /> the soil until completely full The tubes were removed, both ends were covered <br /> with teflon tape and sealed with plastic end caps The samples were labeled, <br /> . placed in a cooler on blue ice, entered on a Cham-of-Custody form and <br /> transported to Western Environmental Science and Technology (WEST), a State- <br /> certified environmental laboratory located in Davis, California <br /> Samples collected from the UST excavation, hydraulic lifts and oil-water <br /> separator were obtained using the excavator bucket The top I to 3 inches of <br /> soil was removed from the bucket, after which a soil sample was collected <br /> Samples from the product piping trenches were collected by driving a sample <br /> tube into the soil with a wooden mallet until completely full, after which the <br /> samples were handled as described above <br /> Stockpile composite samples were collected by removing the top 6 to 12 inches <br /> of soil, and repeating the procedures described above A composite sample <br /> consists of four subsamples composited at the laboratory <br /> 782701-1 <br />
