The report
details that petroleum hydrocarbon contamination was detected in groundwater samples collected from
monitoring wells U-19 and U-21 located downgradient from the site. The lateral extent of petroleum
contamination in"Zone C'has not been delineated.
The lateral extent of petroleum contamination in Zone C will need to be defined. GRI recommended that
groundwater samples should be collected for two additional quarters(fust and second quarters of 2001),
prior to making recommendations for subsequent investigations at this site. PHS/EHD agrees with this
approach. However,we will want to meet with you and GRI,either by telephone or at this office,
following the submittal of the First Quarter 2001 report,to evaluate the significance of the findings.
Please note that this case has been reassigned to Dot Lofstrom. You may address all future correspondence
involving Unocal#0187 to her.
