ESA Environmental
Science
Associates n EDO
DED 1 2000 1
November 28, 2000
pER
i
Ms. Carol Oz
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
304 East Weber Street
Stockton, California 95202
Subject: Additional Groundwater Assessment for MTBE
Former Underground Storage Tank Site
University of the Pacific (UOP)Physical Plant
1081 W.Mendocino Avenue, Stockton, California
i
Dear Ms. Oz:
ESA has prepared the attached Workplan for Additional Groundwater Assessment for further evaluation of
methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE)in the groundwater at the above referenced site. MTBE was detected in
the soils beneath the former UST tank pit following the removal of a 4,400-gasoline tank in April,2000.
Concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons (gasoline) were either non-detect or at low concentrations. In our
follow-up investigation in July 2000, MTBE was detected in 2 of 5 groundwater samples at a maximurh
concentration of 1,300 parts per billion. The work discussed in this workplan is intended to further evaluate
the extent of the MTBE concentration in the shallow groundwater.
We appreciate your assistance in preparing and reviewing this workplan and look forward to working with
you again. If you require additional information or have questions, please call Peter Hudson at(415)
896.5900 or Ms. Crystal Stech at(916)564.4500.
Sincerely,
i
o n E.
