f
ATTACHMENT B HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
r i
Ar
1.7 Emergency Services:
Medical
Dial 911
Dameron Hospital
525 West Acacia, Stockton, CA. 95207
Fire
Dial 911
Stockton Fire Department
Police
Dial 911
L.+ Stockton Police Department
2.0 INTRODUCTION
This health and safety plan is designed to address potential health and safety hazards
associated with site assessment activities at the University of the Pacific (UOP) former
underground storage tank(UST) site in Stockton, California. As stated above, the site is
the former location of the Physical Plant on the north side of Mendocino Avenue within
the UOP campus. One UST was removed in April 2000 from the parking lot located
north of the former Physical Plant building and west of the Custodial/Warehouse
building. A summary of site-specific information is listed in Section 1.0. A detailed
jdescription of health and safety requirements is contained in Sections 3.0 to 11.0. This
4, plan is intended to supplement current UOP health and safety regulations. These
regulations are incorporated into and made a part of this Plan by reference. If a conflict
exists between this document and UOP regulations, the UOP regulations shall prevail.
The work proposed during the field effort could result in worker exposure to varying
levels of petroleum hydrocarbon compounds. These compounds consist of,but are not
limited to, gasoline, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and MTBE. However,
considering that the concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon compounds detected
beneath the UST were relatively low, and that proposed direct-push sampling method
reduces workers exposure to contaminated soil cuttings, the potential for hazardous level
of petroleum hydrocarbons is not expected to be a significant concern. Regardless,in
order to insure workers safety, the following safety guidelines and procedures will be
employed during the field effort.
4. 3.0 ASSIGNMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 Proiect Manager—Peter Hudson
0 Overall project management
0 Assists in development of Health and Safety Plan
r
I Environmental Science Associates 2 University of the Pacific Site Investigation Work Plan i
y June 2000
200252 I
