' 19 July 2004
• AGE-NC Project No. 95-0185
2.2.1. Well Monitoring and Evacuation
1
The water level and any free-phase petroleum product in wells MW-1 through MW-3 and MW-5
were measured relative to the tops of the well casings using a Solinst free-product interface-probe;
' the ground water elevations and gradient were determined from this data(Table 1).
After gauging the depth to ground water, each monitoring well was purged with a dedicated,
' disposable bailer.Between 2 and 3 gallons of groundwater were removed from wells MW-1 through
MW-3; well MW-5 bailed dry after one gallon of purging. Temperature,pH and conductivity were
' measured at regular intervals during purging using an Oakton water analyzer(Appendix B). Purged
water was stored,on-site in 55-gallon Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved drums.
' 2.2.2. Collection and Analysis of Ground Water Samples
Y p
Ground water samples were collected from the purged wells using the dedicated,-disposable
polyethylene bailers. Each water sample was transferred into three 40-m1 volatile organic.analysis
(VOA) vials containing 0.5-m1 18% HCl as a sample preservative and one 1-liter amber bottle
' • without preservative. The samples.were then labeled and placed in a chilled container for transport
under chain of custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories (CTEL) of Paramount California,
a California Department of Health Services(DHS)-certified analytical laboratory. All water samples
' were analyzed for:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and.diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
' accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylene (BTEX), and the fuel additives methyl
tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tent
butyl ether (ETBE) and tert amyl methyl ether (TAME) in accordance with EPA Method
8260 Modified.
3.0. FINDINGS
The ground water elevation,,gradient and flow direction .were determined from the field data.
Contaminant impact to ground water was assessed by field observations and laboratory analysis.
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,ine.
