15 August 1996
8
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0185
4.3. FIELD OBSERVATIONS AND LABORATORY RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
Organic vapors were detected in soil samples collected from the saturated zone, at concentrations
ranging up to 17 ppm. Organic vapors were detected at concentrations as high as 50 ppm in samples
collected from boring B4 at depths between 10 and 20 feet bsg.
tTPH-d was detected in soil samples collected from probe borings at concentrations ranging up to
5,100 parts per million (ppm, reported as milligrams per kilogram). Toluene, ethyl benzene and
xylenes were detected in soil samples collected from the probe borings at concentrations ranging
' from 0.014 ppm (P4-20) to 0.52 ppm (P1-20). Benzene was not detected in soil samples collected
from the probe borings. No soil samples from boring P2 were analyzed. The analytical results from
' soil probe boring samples are included in Table 2 - Analytical Results of Soil Saniples. The
laboratory report (MAI Laboratory I. D. No. 59505 to 59516), chain-of-custody and quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) report are included in Appendix E.
TPH-d was detected in soil samples collected during installation of the ground water monitoring
wells at concentrations ranging from ND (not-detected; 132-20 and 133-20)to 19,000 ppm (134-I5).
TPH-g was detected in three samples at concentrations as high as 720 ppm (B4-15).
Toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes were detected in three soil samples collected during installation
' of the monitoring wells at concentrations ranging from 0.015 ppm(xylenes, B 1-19) to 1.6 ppm (B4=
15). Neither benzene nor MTBE were detected in soil samples collected during installation of the
ground water monitoring wells. The analytical results of soil samples collected during installation
' of the ground water monitoring wells are included in Table 2. The laboratory report (MAI
Laboratory I.D.No. 65765 to 65770),chain-of-custody and QA/QC report are included in Appendix
F. `
4.4. LABORATORY RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
1
TPH-d was detected in grab ground water samples from probe borings P I and P4 at concentrations
of 120,000 and 1,100,000 parts per billion (ppb, reported as micrograms per liter), respectively.
Benzene and xylenes were detected in both samples at concentrations as high as 34 ppb. Ethyl
benzene was detected in the grab water sample from P4 at 3.7 ppb. Toluene was not detected in
either grab ground water sample. The laboratory report(MAI Laboratory:I.D:-Nos. 59505.to 59516),
'
chain-of-custody and QA/QC report are included in Q Q P Appendix E.
TPH-d was detected in ground water samples collected on 24 June 1996, from monitoring wells
MW-1,MW-3 and MW-4 at concentrations of 530 ppb, 240 ppb and 22,000 ppb,respectively. TPH-
g was detected in ground water samples from MW-1 and MW-4 at.concentrations of 150 ppb and
