1
1 . 15 August 1996
d g
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0185
' volumes)to diminish the amount of silt content in each well's filter pack. Thirty gallons of water
were removed from MW-4 to develop the well filter pack.
Ground water parameters were measured at four-gallon intervals, using an ICM water analyzer, until
temperature,pH and conductivity had stabilized (Appendix D). Purged water was stored on-site in
55-gallon DOT drums.
1
' 3.2.5. COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples were collected from each well using a new disposable plastic bailer. Each water
' sample was collected in two 40-m1 VOA vials and one 1-liter amber bottle. After collection, the
samples were placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI. Each
sample was analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d, BTE&X and MTBE in accordance with EPA methods
' 5030/8015m, 5030/8015m, 602 and 602, respectively.
4.0. FINDINGS
4.1. STRATIGRAPHY
' Fine to coarse-grained, silty and clayey sand was encountered in each boring p from depths of
approximately 5 to 20-feet bsg. Silty sand and coarse-grained sand were encountered from depths
' of 20 to 33 feet bsg at the site. Ground water was encountered at depths of approximately 18 to 21
feet bsg in each boring at the site. Figures 4 and 5 are stratigraphic cross sections of the site, showing
general lithology and hydrocarbon-impacted soil.
1
' 4.2. GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
The relative elevation of ground water in each well was calculated by subtracting the ground water
depth from the surveyed casing elevation (Table 1). Monitoring well casing elevations were
surveyed relative to a MW-4, which was assigned an arbitrary elevation of 60 feet above sea level.
The relative ground water elevation ranges from 39.70 feet in MW-4 to 40.00 feet in MW-1.
The relative ground water elevation at the site are contoured ori Figure 3 -Relative Ground Water
Elevation. Ground water flow at the site varies from southeast to northeast toward an eastward
plunging trough between MW-1 and MW-2. The regional ground water flow direction is generally
southwest and the observed gradient is a variation from the regional trend. This variation may be due
in part to seasonal changes in the local ground water flow patterns:
F
1.
