1
r09 October 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0432
' as a sample preservative and into one 1-liter amber bottle without preservative. After collection, the
samples were labeled and placed in a chilled container for transportation under chain-of-custody to
McCampbell Analytical Laboratory(MAI)in Pacheco,California,a State of California Department
' of Health Services (DHS) Laboratory. Each sample was analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
' accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
• Volatile aromatic compounds: benzene,toluene,ethyl-benzene and total xylenes(BTE&X)
with methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020,
• Fuel oxygenating compounds including di-isopropyl ether(DIPS),ethyl tertiary-butyl ether
(ETBE),ethanol,MTBE,tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME)and tertiary-butanol (TBA)in
' accordance with EPA Method 8260 Modified.
3.0. FINDINGS
3.1. GROUND WATER ELEVATION, FLOW DIRECTION AND GRADIENT
Depth to ground water at the site ranged from 15.92 to 16.80 feet below the well casing tops. The
' ground water elevation in each well was calculated from these data. The ground water elevations at
the site ranged from 21.08 feet to 21.32 feet above mean sea level (Table 1). Contours of the ground
water elevation data indicate that the ground water flow is directed toward the north-northeast away
' from the former diesel UST area at 0.01 feet/feet(52.8 feet mile). Figure 3 illustrates the contoured
ground water elevations.
3.2. GROUND WATER ANALYTICAL RESULTS
' TPH-g was detected in ground water samples MW-1 and MW-2 at.590 micrograms per liter(gg/1)
and 54 pg/l,respectively. In addition,TPH-d was detected in both these samples at 140 µg/l and 170
' µg/l, respectively.
Xylenes were detected in MW-1 at 8.2 µg11.No BTE&X compounds were detected in the remaining
samples. _
MTBE was detected in samples MW-1; MW-2 and MW-3 utilizing EPA method '8020 at
' concentrations of 22,000 pg/l, 1,800 µg11 and 190 µg11, respectively. These concentrations were
. requantified by EPA method 8260m at 26,000 µg/1,2;100 µg11 and 220 µg/l, respectively.No other
fuel oxygenates were detected above detection limits in the four samples.
' Advanced GeoLnvironmental,[nc.
1
