' 14 February 2003
• AGE-NC Project No 98-0432
' 2 1 4 Well Development
On 09 December 2002,monitoring wells MW-7 and MW-8 were developed utilizing a stainless steel
' hand bailer and a Wattera purging system with a tube bailer Ground water was purged from each
monitoring well until ground water was visually sediment free, 6 5 gallons of water were removed
from wells MW-7 and MW-8 Purged ground water was contamenzed in properly labeled DOT-
approved model 17H 55-gallon drums and was stored on-site Field sheets and data are included in
Appendix B
2 2 GROUND WATER MONITORING PROCEDURES
' The quarterly ground water monitoring event was performed on 09 December 2002, ground water
monitoring was performed on monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-8
2 2 1 Well Monitoring and Evacuation
lie The depth to ground water was measured at each of the monitoring wells from the top of the well
casing to the nearest 0 01-foot utilizing a Solmst water level meter Ground water elevation in each
well at the site was calculated by subtracting the measured depth to ground water from the surveyed
' well casing elevation (Table 1)
' After the depth-to-ground water measurements were collected, the wells were purged using a
disposable, dedicated plastic-bailer Approximately, 6 to 6 5 gallons of water were removed from
monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-6, a minimum of three casing-water volumes per well
Monitoring wells MW-7 and MW-8 were purged during well development (Section 2 14),
approximately 6 5 gallons of water were removed from MW-7 and MW-8 Temperature, pH and
conductivity of the purged water were measured at regular purge-volume intervals with an Oakton
' water analyzer Monitoring well field logs are included in Appendix B Purge water generated from
the site monitoring wells was contained on-site in appropriately labeled 55-gallon drums
' 2 2 2 Collection and Analysis of Ground Water Samples
' After allowing the-wells to achieve a minimum 80°recovery of the pre-purge water volume,ground -
water samples were collected from the monitoring wells using disposable polyethylene bailers, these
bailers were disposed of after one use and require no decontaminating, thereby minimizing cross
' contammation due to sampling devices Each water sample was transferred into three 40-m1
EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18%HCl as a sample preservative and into one 1-liter
amber bottle without preservative After collection, the samples were labeled and placed in a chilled
Advanced GeoEnvzronmental,Inc
