1
' 14 February 2003
. AGE-NC Project No 98-0432
' Soil samples were collected ahead of the drill bit using a California modified split-spoon sampler
loaded with three pre-cleaned 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves The samples were collected from
monitoring well pilot borings MW7 and MW8 at five-foot intervals, beginning at 5 feet below
' surface grade (bsg) in well MW-8 and 10 feet bsg in well MW-7, using a 140-pound hammer to
advance the sampler The number of blows required to advance the sampler over each 6-inch
increment of the 18-inch sampling interval was recorded on the boring logs Sampling equipment
was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water prior to each sampling run to minimize
cross-contamination
For each sample, both ends of the leading or other selected sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets,
capped and sealed with tape The samples were properly labeled and stored, but were not required
for laboratory analysis
212 Logging
Soil was extruded from a second brass sleeve and was then visually described in accordance with
0 the Unified Soil Classification System (see Appendix A)
1 2 1 3 Well Completion and Well Head Survey
Pilot borings MW7 and MW8 were completed as ground water monitoring wells using two-inch
diameter PVC casing with 0 020-inch slotted screen installed from approximately 10 feet to 30 feet
bsg, with blank casing extended to the surface The filter pack(No 3 Lonestar sand)was installed
from approximately 8 feet to 30 feet bsg in the well borings A nominal 1 or 2-foot bentonite chip
plug was installed above the filter pack and hydrated The wells were then grouted to near the surface
with portland cement, and water-tight,traffic-rated well boxes were installed over the wells As-built
y
well diagrams are depicted on the boring logs in Appendix A
' On 22 November 2002, a California state-licensed survey engineer from Baumbach&Piazza, Inc
surveyed the elevation at the top of the well casing of monitoring wells M W 5 through MW8 to the
' nearest 0 01-foot relative to City of Manteca Bench Mark#63, surveyed at 33 76 feet above mean
sea level(MSL) The results of the monitoring well survey are contained in Table 1 The surveying
report (Baumbach &Piazza, Inc) is presented in Appendix B
1
' Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc
1
