i <br /> Closure Report 2 <br /> Golden Grain Manteca Bean Facility,299 Moffal Boulevard,Manteca,California _ _ July 16, 1996 <br /> surrounding area The former building and related structures were knocked down and removed <br /> during the winter of 1995-1996 <br /> ' 1.11 Underground Tank Removal <br /> Soil and groundwater beneath the site were impacted by gasoline from a former 709-gallon <br /> underground storage tank This tank was used to fuel delivery trucks that operated from the facility <br /> Golden Grain had the tank removed in 1987 and completed an assessment of the site in December <br /> ' Assessment work included conducting a soil vapor survey, installing several groundwater monitoring <br /> wells, and collecting soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis Following completion of <br /> the assessment, a remedial plan was developed as specified by the RWQCB The plan was <br /> subsequently approved by San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) and RWQCB (Final <br /> Remedial Plan, September 17, 1999, Addendum to Final Remedial Plan, February 6, 1991, and letter <br /> from SJCPHS,April 8, 1991) <br /> 1.1 2 Sampling and Treatment System <br /> Site and system configuration consists of 14 groundwater monitoring wells, 1 groundwater pumping <br /> well, a low-profile air stripper groundwater treatment unit, a vapor extraction system connected to 2 <br /> site monitoring wells, a custom lead extraction unit for lead removal from the vapor stream, and a <br /> catalytic scavenger for hydrocarbon removal from the vapor stream of the air stripper and vapor <br /> extraction system prior to system off-gas discharge to the atmosphere On July 20, 1995, operation of <br /> ' the soil vapor extraction system was converted from a continuous to a pulsed mode of operation to <br /> enhance hydrocarbon extraction rates On July 27, 1995, the groundwater treatment technology was <br /> ' changed from air stripping to granular activated carbon (GAC) On November 16, 1995, the soil vapor <br /> extraction system was shut down because no further hydrocarbons could be removed System <br /> ' equipment is located within a fenced compound that also provides secondary containment for the <br /> entire treatment system A more detailed description of the system is provided In section 3 2 <br /> i <br /> 1 423=3CR <br /> FLUOR DANIEL GTI <br />
