First Quarter 1994 Status Report March 31, 1994 Golden Grain Company, Manteca Bean Facility, 229 Moffat Blvd , Manteca, CA 3 TREATMENT SYSTEM OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE During this quarter, the sod and groundwater treatment system was operational for 76 days The sod treatment system extracts vapors from wells MW-2 and MW-3 The groundwater treatment system extracts groundwater from well RW-1 Over the quarter, 14 site visits were made to perform system operation and maintenance work Work performed during each maintenance event included ■ Taking flame-ionization detector (FID) measurements of system vapor effluent and influent, • Checking and recording the catalytic oxidizer operational data, • Checking and calibrating the system lower explosive limit (LEL) meters, • Checking and recording system lead scrubber operational parameters, • Recording operational data and maintaining rotron blowers and vapor extraction system, • Checking and recording operational data for LO-PROF Lo-Profile Air Stripper, making adjustments as necessary, and • Performing a daily system operating parameters check via modem In addition to the above mentioned weekly operation and maintenance, the following specific activities were performed on March 3, 1994 • Installed a catalytic water conditioner to the influent of the air stripper to minimize fouling caused by the hardness of the water • Installed a covered sump and an automatic sump pump in line with the water treatment system to minimize standing water within the compound during heavy rains and for a secondary containment backup Disposed of 11 drums of sod which were previously stored in the adjacent warehouse No amounts of TPH-G, BTEX, or total lead were detected in samples collected for disposal The sod was disposed of at the Forward Landfill in Stockton, Ca, under a non-hazardous waste manifest ■ Made additional piping modifications to the influent of the air stripper in order to treat the well sampling purge water through the groundwater treatment system • 551OR014 020 09 GROUNDWATER TECHNOLOGY,INC
