L
Second Quarter 1993 Status Report June 15, 1993
Golden Gram Company, Manteca Bean Facility, 229 Moffat Blvd , Manteca CA 3
TREATMENT SYSTEM OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
Samples were scheduled to be collected from the groundwater treatment system on May 14, 1993
Because of an internal equipment malfunction in the catalytic oxidizer during the previous 24-hour
period that activated the automatic interlocking system, the groundwater treatment system was not
operating and samples could not be collected (see our letter of May 27, 1993, to Ms Linda Turkett,
San Joaquin County Public Health Services) Results of system historical analyses are summarized
in Table 3 During this quarter, the air stripper was dismantled and cleaned on April 16, 1993, for
normal maintenance needed to keep the unit at peak operating efficiency There was no discharge
of system water during these maintenance events (see page 4, Treatment System Summary) A
total of 181,840 gallons of water were treated between March 12 and May 7, 1993
During this reporting period, the vapor extraction system was monitored each week until May 14,
1993 The influent and effluent vapor concentrations were measured for TPH-as-gasoline using a
flame ionization detector (FID) Values measured during site visits this quarter are shown in Table 4
The average destruction efficiency of 99 4 percent was calculated using weekly FID readings of the
catalytic oxidizer effluent vapor stream for the operational period from March 12 through May 7,
1993 All effluent readings collected were below the 100 parts per million by volume (ppmv) total
petroleum hydrocarbons-as-gasoline (TPH-G) limit specified by the Unified Air Pollution Control
District permit to operate
Using the flow rates and TPH-G concentrations measured each week, the amount of TPH-G
removed from sods at the site can be estimated Based on the TPH-G concentrations and system
flow rates obtained during field visits, approximately 374 pounds of TPH-G were removed from the
sod by the vapor extraction system during this quarter The cumulative amount of hydrocarbon "
removed by the vapor extraction system since start-up is estimated at 1,987 pounds
VAPOR EXTRACTION MONITORING
Vapor extraction monitoring was scheduled for May 14 and 19, 1993, but because of the necessary
treatment system repairs, the monitoring was unable to be performed For comparable data to be
gathered, the treatment system must operate under normal conditions before performing more vapor
extraction monitoring The next vapor extraction monitoring event will take place in conjunction with
the regularly scheduled third quarter monitoring and sampling in August 1993
2379R01 070
uGROUNDWATER
LF-INTECHNOLOGY,INC
