First Quarter 1995 Status Report 3
Golden Grain Company, Manteca Bean Facility,229 Moffat Blvd , Manteca,CA April&, 1995
■ checking and calibrating the system lower explosive limit (LEL) meters
■ recording operational data and maintaining vacuum extraction blowers and vapor
extraction system (VES)
r checking and recording operational data for the air stripper and making adjustments as
necessary
■ checking the condition of the catalytic water conditioner which minimizes fouling caused
by the hardness of the water
■ performing a dally system operating parameters check via modem
The soil vapor extraction and groundwater treatment systems ran continuously this quarter except
during four occasions The following is a list of the days that the remediation system was not
operational
01/01/95-01/11/95 The groundwater extraction system was non-operational because
the relay from the phase converter to the air stripper blower failed
A new relay had to be ordered prior to replacement The soli vapor
extraction system continued to operate during the groundwater
extraction system down time
01/21/95-01/25/95 The groundwater extraction system was non-operational because
the discharge line became clogged with calcium carbonate chips
from the air stripper trays The chips were removed, the air stripper
plates were cleaned, and the system was restarted The soil vapor
extraction system continued to operate during the groundwater
extraction system down time
02/20/95-02/22/95 The fresh air bleed to the soil vapor extraction system was tripped
for an unknown reason and the groundwater extraction system was
shut down by the safety interlocks The system was restarted within
two days of the system shutdown
02/26/95-02/28/95 A blown fuse in the catalytic oxidizer control panel caused the soil
vapor extraction system to shut down and the groundwater system
was shut down by the safety interlocks The fuse was replaced and
the system was restarted within two days of the system shutdown
During this quarter of operation, there were no releases of untreated groundwater or untreated
system effluent vapors except for a 2 0 p g/L detection of xylenes in the effluent vapor during the
February 22, 1995, sampling event System shutdowns were planned or occurred as a result of
designed system safety interlocks, which shut down the remediation systems to preclude untreated
. releases The xylenes detected in the catalytic oxidizer effluent was below the permit discharge limit,
0102no13 lox
GROUNDWATER
TECHNOLOGY, INC
