o
Second Quarter 1994 Status Report 3
Golden Grain Company, Manteca Bean Facility, 229 Moffat Blvd , Manteca, CA July 18, 1994
gradient maps and hydrocarbon concentration distribution maps from May 21, 1992, and August 21,
1992, have been included as figures 5 through 10 to illustrate pre-pumping conditions at the site
Hydrocarbon concentrations have been detected in groundwater samples from wells MW-10, MW-13,
and MW-14 each of the last three quarters (see reports dated January 6, 1994, and March 31, 1994)
Prior to November 11, 1993, hydrocarbons were not detected in groundwater samples from these
wells
From November 11, 1993, to June 9, 1994, concentrations of hydrocarbons in wells MW-10, MW-13,
and MW-14 have increased from below detection limits to slightly above detection levels (see
table 2) Indications from monitoring data, groundwater sample analyses, and site historical data
suggest that the source of the dissolved hydrocarbons detected in groundwater samples from wells
MWA0, MWA3, and MWA4 might be upgradient of the site However, using the presently available
data, this cannot be confirmed at this time Additional data search and site reconnaissance work will
be necessary to evaluate whether there are any possible upgradient sources of these newly detected
dissolved hydrocarbons in wells MW-10, MW-13, and MW-14
TREATMENT SYSTEM OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
During this quarter, the sod and groundwater treatment system was operational for 97 days The soil
treatment system extracts vapors from wells MW-2 and MW-3 The groundwater treatment system
extracts groundwater from well RW-1 During the quarter, 14 site visits were made to perform
system operation and maintenance work Work performed during each maintenance event included
• taking flame-ionization detector (FID) measurements of system vapor effluent and
influent
• checking and recording the catalytic oxidizer operational data
• checking and calibrating the system lower explosive limit (LEL) meters
• checking and recording system lead scrubber operational parameters
• recording operational data and maintaining rotron blowers and vapor extraction
system (VES)
checking and recording operational data for LO-PROU' Lo-Profile Air Stripper, making
adjustments as necessary
• checking the condition of the catalytic water conditioner which minimizes fouling
caused by the hardness of the water
• performing a daily system operating parameters check via modem
5510F3o24 ozo
GROUNDWATER
TECHNOLOGY, INC
