Second Quarter 1994 Status Report 4
Golden Grain Company, Manteca Bean Facility, 229 Moffat Blvd , Manteca, CA July 18, 1994
The soil vapor extraction and groundwater treatment systems ran continuously this quarter except
for three occasions The following is a list of the days that the remediation system was not
operational
04/07/94 The system was automatically shut down as a result of a high LEL alarm
condition The condition was traced back to moisture in the vapor lines
The LEL sensors were removed, cleaned, and recalibrated prior to being
reinstalled The system was restarted and was operating under normal
conditions within the same day as the problem occurred
04/12/94 The system shutdown was not caused by an equipment malfunction A
power outage in the Manteca area is believed to be the cause of the failure
The equipment was restarted on the same day the problem occurred
05/31/94 A relay on the soil vapor extraction system blower was not operating
correctly The blower was repaired and normal operation began
immediately
During this quarter of operation, there were no releases of untreated groundwater or untreated
system effluent vapors System shutdowns were planned or triggered by the system interlock, which
functioned as designed to bring complete system shutdown in the event of equipment malfunction
Calculations using TPH-g concentrations and system flow rates obtained during field visits indicate
that approximately 84 pounds of TPH-g were removed from the sod by the VES during this quarter
The cumulative amount of hydrocarbons removed by the VES since start-up is estimated at 3,320
pounds Less than 1 pound of TPN-g was removed from the groundwater during this quarter
Calculations for mass removal from the vapor and groundwater treatment systems for the second
quarter are included in attachment 3
During this reporting period, the VES was monitored each week The influent and effluent vapor
concentrations were measured for TPH-g using an FID Values measured during site visits this
quarter, as well as historical data from October 1993 are shown in table 3 The average destruction
efficiency of 994 percent was calculated using weekly FID readings of the catalytic oxidizer effluent
vapor stream for the operational period from March 10 through June 9, 1994 All effluent readings
collected were below the 100 parts per million by volume (ppmv) TPH-g discharge limit specified by
the Unified Air Pollution Control District permit (Permit No N-2825-1-0) to operate
On May 19, 1994, samples were collected from the groundwater treatment system and analyzed for
TPH-g, BTEX, total lead, organic lead, and ethylene dibromide at a California-certified laboratory
Laboratory analysis reports and corresponding chain-of-custody records for the sampling event on
May 19, 1994, are included in attachment 4 Results of system historical analyses are summarized in
i
5510R024 420
EEGROUNDWATER
TECHNOLOGY, INC
