2 0 SCOPE OF WORK
The objectives of this proposed scope of work are to further define the extent of impacted soil and
groundwater beneath the site and adjacent areas To achieve these objectives, soil and
groundwater samples will be collected for laboratory analysis from seven direct-push soil borings
21 Planning and Permitting
' The project planning task will include the preparation of a health and safety plan addendum,
acquisition of required permits, advance notification of all field activities, and a routine underground
utility survey
Prior to initiating fieldwork, a site-specific health and safety plan addendum will be prepared
according to 29 CFR 1910 120 The health and safety plan will include safety procedures for work
to be performed, chemical hazard information, site safety officers, and a medical emergency
location
To perform the proposed scope of work, drilling permits will be obtained from PHSIEHD for each
property parcel Since off-site soil borings are proposed, encroachment permits from the city of
Manteca and Union Pacific Railroad will be required
At least two working days prior to field work, PHSIEHD will be notified so that any inspections can
be scheduled Underground Service Alert will also be notified to mark any underground utilities
1
2.2 Soil and Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
To evaluate the distribution and extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in subsurface soil and
groundwater, soil and groundwater samples will be collected for analysis from seven locations As
indicated on Figure 2, one soil boring will be drilled next to the former USTs, and six soil borings will
be drilled approximately 100 to 120 feet from the former USTs
' Soil and groundwater-grab samples will be collected using a Geoprobe® Direct-Push Technology
rig (Geoprobe) The proposed soil boring next to the former USTs will be advanced directly to the
sandy gravel, second groundwater-bearing interval at approximately 43 feet bgs, for discrete
groundwater sampling only Each of the other six soil borings will be advanced to approximately 25
' feet bgs for soil and groundwater sampling from the water table
9
