2 2 1 Soil Sampling
Undisturbed soil samples will be collected from each sample location at five foot intervals until
the vertical extent of Impacted soil is defined by field observation and screening Soil samples
will be collected by driving the GeoprobeT"' sampler to the desired depth, retracting the piston tip
into a sample tube lined with a one-Inch diameter acetate sleeve and driving an additional two
feet to displace the soil sample into the sleeve The sod sample will then be extracted from the
borehole to the surface using the GeoprobeTm rig Two soil borings (SB-1 and SB-3) will be
continuously cored using the GeoprobeTA° MacroCore® system The two-inch diameter
continuous cores and all soil samples will be logged for hydrogeologic and lithologic
characteristics by an experienced field geologist and screened using an organic vapor monitor
equipped with a photoionization detector
' 2 2 2 Groundwater Grab Sampling
At the top of the groundwater-bearing zone In each of the sample locations, a plash driven
groundwater sampling device consisting of a steel Inner core well screen nested inside a steel
outer sampler sheath will be advanced an additional two feet into the formation When the
desired depth is reached, the sampler will be pulled up approximately four feet to expose the
open borehole to the inner core well screen From this temporary well, a groundwater grab
sample will be collected by lowering a polyethylene tubing and check valve system down the
hollow center of the drilling rod and into the groundwater column Groundwater will be pumped
to the surface using an oscillating motion
2 2 3 Borehole Abandonment
Each of the GeoprobeT"^ sod boringswill be an ned with hydrated bentonite From the
surface, bentonite chips will be placed into the en orehole and hydrated with clean water
Following borehole abandonment, asphalt p the ►VIII be used to match the surface pavement
2 2 4 Laboratory Analyses of Geoprobe Samples
All soil and groundwater grab samples will be contained, labeled, packaged and stored In an
iced cooler for transport under chain-of-custody manifest to NEI/GTEL Environmental
Laboratories, Inc (NEI/GTEL) a state of California Department of Health Services certified
analytical laboratory (#1845)
' Work Plan Environmental Site Investigation Ramage Environmental
• 191 South Moffat Blvd Manteca California June 18, 1997
