•, 07 November 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0520
transported under chain-of-custody to McCambell Analytical,Inc.(MAI)The samples were analyzed
fon.
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance, with EPA
Method 5030/8015M;
• Volatile aromatic compounds - benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene (BTEX) with
methyl tertiary- butyl ether (MTBE) - in accordance with EPA Method 8020; and
0 Fuel oxygenates,including tertiary butanol(TBA),di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tert=butyl
' ether (ETBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), and MTBE, with 1,2-Dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
3.0. FINDINGS
tGround water elevation, and flow direction were calculated from field data;hydrocarbon-impact to
ground water was inferred from laboratory analysis of ground water samples.
3.1. GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
1
The relative elevation of ground water in each well was calculated by subtracting the depth to ground
' water from the surveyed relative casing elevations,(Table 1). Depths to ground water ranged from
20.80 feet to 21.42 feet below the tops of the well casings.Ground water elevations at the site ranged
from 15.55 feet (MW-4)to 15.64 feet (MW-2) above mean sea level.
' The ground water flow direction was determined using ground water elevation data. The ground
water underlying the site is flowing west to slightly west-southwest under an average gradient of
0.0009 ft/ft. As such a low gradient, small measurement variations can greatly affect the inferred
flow direction. Figure .3 illustrates the contoured ground water elevations as measured on 07
September 2000.
3.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
e' TPH-g was detected in all the water samples analyzed at concentrations ranging from 680
micrograms per liter(µg/1) in MW-4 to 9,300 µg/1 in MW-5.
' . Various BTEX compounds were detected in all of the water samples analyzed. Maximum benzeneal P P Y
and toluene concentrations were detected in the sample from MW-5 at 2.8 }ig/I and 6.8 p.g/1,
' Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
