A,
Preliminary_ Investigation and Evaluation Report
! . BOB'S MUFFLER SHOP
466 Moffat Road,Manteca, California
1.0. , INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE OF WORK
At the request of Mr. Tom Barbour,Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) has prepared this
'Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation Report (PIER) for Bob's Muffler Shop located at 466
Moffat Road, Manteca, California(site). The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1; a site plan
is shown in Figure 2.
The scope of work included the.advancement of four soil probe borings to evaluate the Iateral and
vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and ground water. This report is prepared in
accordance with guidelines established by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division(PHS-EHD)and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board for investigation of underground storage tank (UST) sites.
2.0. BACKGROUND
The site is located south of Yosemite Avenue in southern San Joaquin County, in the'city of
. Manteca. The site is located in an area of low topographic.relief. The site is within the northwest
quarter of Section 4, Township 2 South, Range 7 East, Manteca Quadrangle.
Review of depth to ground water maps published by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and
Water Conservation District dating Fall 1997 indicates that ground water depths may have been as
low as 25 feet below surface grade (bsg) near the site (Fall 1997).
AGE has been informed that three underground storage tanks (USTs) were removed from the site
in 1988, one 10,000-gallon regular gasoline UST (Tank No. 1), one 8,000-gallon unleaded gasoline
UST (Tank No. 2) and one 550-gallon waste oil UST (Tank No. 3). During the UST removals, soil
samples were collected from beneath the ends of each UST. The laboratory results'of analyses of
samples indicate a petroleum hydrocarbon impact to soil in the former UST area.
At the request of Mr. Tom Barbour, on behalf of Ms. Amelia Barbour,Advanced GeoEnvironmental,
Inc. performed a preliminary site assessment to investigate the unauthorized release of petroleum
hydrocarbons to soil and ground water at 466 Moffat Road, Manteca (site).
3.0. PROCEDURES
Tasks and procedures for this investigation were completed by AGE personnel-, or under the
• direction of AGE personnel, and were conducted under the supervision of a California Registered
Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc.
