Eckert Cold Storage Company <br /> 757 Moffat Blvd, Manteca, California February 3, 2000 <br /> Quarterly Groundwater Sampling Report; December, 1999 Page: 3 <br /> 1 - <br /> • MTBE was not found in the soil columns during the construction of MW-5, <br /> MW-6, MW-7, or MW-8, or the soil borings B-1, B-2, B-3, and B-4. <br /> • MTBE was not found in the groundwater for the first three sampling events <br /> after the requirement to analyze groundwater for MTBE. During the <br /> November 5, 1997 sampling event, MTBE contamination was present for the <br /> first time and has been increasing in concentrations ever since, except for a <br /> minimal decrease in concentrations this quarter. <br /> • According to the State of California, MTBE was not distributed in gasoline in <br /> California until 1991, three years after the removal of all UST's on the subject <br /> ' property. <br /> There are several potential sources up-gradient (southeast) of the subject site that may be <br /> contributing to the problem. One possible source of concern is the petroleum pipeline <br /> located along the Union Pacific Railroad parallel to Moffat Boulevard. This pipeline is <br /> owned and operated by Kender Morgan Energy Partners. Kender Morgan Energy <br /> Partners was contacted and informed WHF that the pipeline is used to pump gasoline and <br /> diesel fuel. It is WEF's opinion that the nearby sites should be investigated to determine <br /> the source, or sources, of the MTBE release. <br /> 1 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 <br />
