When
completion of the initial validation process is complete all
project data is compiled into a formatted data package for peer
review. Included in the contents of the packet are comments
applicable to method completeness and reliability.
MONITORING OF METHOD PERFORMANCE
--------------------------------
1 . REAGENTS AND GLASSWARE
Method and reagent blanks verify that interferences caused by
contaminants in water, solvents, reagents or glassware used in
the method are known and accounted for during the process of
data reduction. A reagent blank is analyzed whenever a new
reagent source is used for extraction or clean-up. Blanks are
carried through each step of the analytical process.
a. All solvent and reagent information including date of
receipt, supplier and the assigned unique laboratory ID is
entered into a standards log book.
2. STANDARDS
Standards are used to calibrate instruments and to monitor the
long term reliability of the analytical results. Working
standards are prepared from certified primary reference
sources supplied by EPA or chemical suppliers.
r
a. Comolete preparation information for each standard
including primary source, supplier, date of preparation,
technician responsible for preparation and the assigned
unique laboratory ID is entered into the standards log
book.
b. When a new standard source or stock solution is prepared
validation of working dilutions must be made prior to
acceptance for use. Previously evaluated batches are used
as a basis for comparison. Side-by-side analysis of two
separate batches must yield differences not greater than 5%
of the reported value. Failure to meet this requirement
will result in the rerunning of validation analyses. In
the event that the rerun batch fails to meet performance
criteria standards must be re-prepared.
ki
