WELL MONITORING AND EVACUATION
_ On 26 May 2004, a Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in
monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-5 relative to the tops of the well casings. After water levels
were measured, each well was purged utilizing a disposable bailer or Waterra inertial pump.
Approximately 6 gallons (a minimum of three casing-water volumes) of water were removed from
wells MW-1,MW-3 and MW-4;approximately 25 gallons of water were removed from well MW-2
and approximately 24 gallons of water were removed from well MW-5.
Temperature, pH and conductivity of the purged water were measured at regular intervals for each
well, using an Oakton water analyzer. Field sheets are in Appendix C. Purged water was stored on-
site in 55-gallon, Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved drums.
_ 2.4. COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Prior to collection of ground water samples, the depth to ground water was measured again in each
well to ensure that a minimum of 80%of the initial well volume had recharged. A water sample was
collected from wells MW-1,MW-3 and MW-4 using disposable plastic bailers; a water sample was
collected from wells MW-2 and MW-5 using the Waterra tubing.
For the May 2004 sampling event, the samples were transferred into three 40-m1 volatile organic
analysis (VOA) vials containing 0,5 ml hydrochloric acid (18%) as a sample preservative. The
samples were then labeled and placed in a chilled container for transportation under chain of custody
to McCampbell Analytical, Inc. (MAI),a California Department of Health Services(DHS)-certified
laboratory. The collected ground water samples were analyzed for the following:
r Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
_ Method 8015M;
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) in accordance with EPA Method
_
8021B; and
.Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
