18 June 2004
AGE-NC-99-0570
2 2 COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
A water sample was collected from each well using the dedicated, disposable plastic bailer A sample
was also collected from the on-site domestic well during pump operation Immediately upon
retrieval, samples were transferred into three 40-milliliter (ml) Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA)-approved volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0 5 ml hydrochloric acid as a
sample preservative and into a one-liter amber bottle with no sample preservative The samples were
logged on a chain-of-custody form, stored in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-
custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories (CTEL), a California Department of Health
Services (DHS)-certified laboratory, for analysis
Ground water samples were analyzed for the following analytes
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) and the oxygenated compounds
di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), methyl tertiary butyl ether
(MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), 1,2-dibromoethane
. (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B
3.0. FINDINGS
Ground water elevation, flow direction and gradient were determined from field data collected on
02 March 2003 while the hydrocarbon-impact to ground water was assessed by laboratory analysis
of the ground water samples
3 1 GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
The depth to ground water ranged between 14 40 feet below well casing grade in well MW-3 to
15 80 feet below well casing grade in well MW-5 (Table 1) The relative ground water elevation
ranged from 8 67 to 1148 feet below sea level The top of the ground water table occurred within
the screened intervals of the wells Ground water was inferred to be flowing to the north to northS99t Vm j
at a significant hydraulic gradient of 0 02 feet/feet The ground water elevation contours are depicted
on Figure 3
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc
