October 28, 1992
92-1177101
NORCAL Stockton Scavenger Association
+ Attention Mr. Paul Moline-11i
Subject: WORK PLAN - Soil Sampling and Analysis._
Stockton Scavenger Association
Stockton, CA
r Page 3 -. .-
■ Task 30 - Field Activities
The scope of work involves drilling and sampling five exploratoryborings at the
subject site. Locations of the proposed boring sites are identified in Drawing 2.
The borings will be drilled to an approximate depth of 30 feet. Soil samples will be
collected from each boring at depths of 14 and 25 feet, making a-total of. 10-soil
samples. Screening of samples in the field with a flame ionization detector (FID)
will be performed-to provide an assessment of the vertical-extent of volatile organic
compounds in the boring. In addition to soil samples, groundwater samples,
comprising.of a_total of five samples, will be obtained from each boring with the use
of a hydro-punch. Use of the hydro=punch provides a one time groundwater sample
without the added expense and labor of installing a monitoring well. Upon
completion of the sampling, all borings will be .sealed to the surface with a ce-
ment/bentonite mixture.
The field crew will utilize Level D safetyprecautions. In-the event that significant
vapors are detected on site; the project manager or his designee will upgrade safety
precautions as deemed appropriate. .Health and safety guidelines are detailed in the
Health-and Safety Plan;-Appendix A.
Cuttings produced from drilling. will be placed on existing soil. stockpiles -that
resulted from the previous underground storage tanks excavation.
} ■ Task 60 - Chemical Anal
Analysis of groundwater and soil samples will be performed.in a State of California
certified laboratory. Soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
(gasoline and diesel) (EPA Modified,.Method. 8015) and-BTEX (EPA Modred
Method 8020). -Groundwater samples -will-also- be submitted for analysis of EPA
Method 8015 and EPA Method 8020 Normal turn around-time for laboratory work
is two weeks.
■ Task 70 - Data-Evaluation
Upon receipt of the laboratory results, MARK:personnel will format them into
tabular and graphical presentations. With these-formats,-evaluations will be made. .
