H OGEOL o
A GROUNDWATER CONSULTANCY
Mr. Harlan Knoll, R.E.H.S. February 09, 2005
Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
304 E. Weber Avenue, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202-2708
RE: Workplan for Preliminary Soil and Groundwater Characterization at Former
Diesel Tank Removal Soil—Nelson Ready Mix, 2059 Navy Drive, Stockton,
California.
Dear Mr. Knoll;
This workplan for preliminary soil and groundwater characterization at the site of an
earlier diesel tank removal at Nelson Ready Mix, located at 2059 Navy Drive in
Stockton, California is submitted on behalf of R. B. Construction, Inc.
Figure 1 identifies the former diesel tank location and soil and pit water sample locations
and analytical results from samples collected February 20, 2004 and reported on March 8,
2004.
The depth to first encountered groundwater at the site was reported as being about 11 to
12 feet beneath the surface by the source removal contractor. Since the soils in this depth
range have been reported as fine grained, soil sampling boreholes for implementation of
the present work plan will be implemented by hand operated tools as described below.
One hand augered 4-inch borehole is proposed for each of the three assessable sides of
the open source removal excavation. One soil sample will be collected from within the
depth range of the elevation of the standing water in the adjacent pit and first encountered
groundwater in each borehole. It is also proposed that a 2-inch casing and screen
assembly be placed in each open borehole to allow stabilization of groundwater levels
and collection of groundwater samples.
Soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for Total Extractable Petroleum
Hydrocarbons in the diesel range(TEPH-diesel)by U.S. EPA Method 8015M by STL
San Francisco(CA DHS ELAP#2496) of Pleasanton, California.
P.O.Box 2165 ■ Livermore.California 94551-2165 ■ (925)373-9211
Zz
