Mr. Harlan Knoll
February 09, 2005
Page 2
Once the ground surface has been penetrated a hand augered borehole will be commenced. An
augerhole will be advanced to a depth equivalent to the elevation of the standing water in the
adjacent pit. Soil conditions, including descriptive properties and relative moisture will be
logged. The auger will then be advanced until moisture conditions indicate that first groundwater
is about to be encountered. Soil samples for diesel analysis will be collected from the auger
bucket. As they are collected the soil samples will be labeled and stored in an ice chest.
maintained at the temperature available from its also containing and bed of crushed ice placed
there at the start of the sampling day. The ice will not allowed to completely melt before it is
replaced.
After the soil sample is collected, the augerhole will be advanced until `free water' is noted and
then up to five feet further. A flush threaded casing and screen assembly consisting of five feet of
0.020-inch factory slotted pipe (well screen)with an end plug and sufficient blank pipe to rise to
the ground surface will then be lowered into each augerhole as it is completed. As these are
intended to be `temporary wells' (less than 30-days use) a filterpack and well seal will not be
installed.
A relative distance and elevation survey will be conducted to allow quantification of
groundwater potentiometric surface gradient and direction of gradient. Groundwater samples will
be collected from each `temporary well' observing standard monitoring practices.
A report will be prepared detailing the results of the present investigation.
Please do not hesitate to email h2ogeol@comcast.net or call the undersigned at 925-373-9211
and/or telefax at 925-373-9222 should you have any questions.
DG
E^+ 1
Sincerely, c Q
r r
' GARY D.
