Former Nelson Ready Mix Page 3
Work Plan-Monitoring Well Construction
GPE Project No.518.2
January 17,2006
4.0 FIELD INVESTIGATION
The attached site map shows the subject Property and its improvements in the vicinity of
the former tank. Locations of the three proposed wells are shown on the map as is the
former tank location and the previously installed Geo-Probe soil borings. The three wells
(designated MW-1,-2, acid -3)will be located.around the point of release as shown on the
site map.
The groundwater surface In this part occurs about 10 feet below grade. The wells will be
equipped with 15 feet of screened liner from about 5 feet to 20 feet below ground level.
4.1 Preliminary Site Work
Preliminary work will consist of obtaining a permit to install monitoring wells from the
San Joaquin County EHD..
4.2 Soil Boring Installation
A hollow stem auger drilling rig; owned and operated by V&W Drilling, a C-57 licensed
F water well contractor will.be used to drill three,.8-inch diameter soil borings (designated
L MW-1, through MW-3) to a total depth of 20 feet. During drilling soil samples will be
collected at 5-foot intervals.
i
All soil cuttings will be stockpiled or placed in drums and temporarily stored, pending
profiling and determination of proper disposal methods.
. i
4.3 Soil Sampling and Analyses
The soil borings will sampled at 5-foot intervals for geological and possible analytical
evaluation using a 2.0-inch diameter by 1.5-foot long (i.d.).hammer driven California
Split Spoon sampling device fitted with three 2- by 6-inch brass or stainless steel liners.
The soil sample collection procedure will be as follows: The end of each sample tube
removed from the split spoon will be sealed with aluminum foil, capped with plastic end
caps, secured with tape, labeled and placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the
laboratory using Chain of Custody protocol. Chain of Custody (CofC) forms are
documents used to track.the handling of samples. All dates, times, persons and
companies handling the samples will be listed from the time the sample is collected to its
ultimate disposal. All soil sampling equipment will be decontaminated between uses by
washing using a steam cleaner. Nitrile gloves, will be worn during sample collection and
changed between collection of each sample.
A detailed to will be made of each boring. The information to be noted include such
g g
data as sample depths, blow counts from hammer driven sampling devices, horizons of
detectable contamination (detected by field methods), soil classification utilizing the
Unified Soil Classification System and sediment description (color, texture, composition,
2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 .
