19 March 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0886
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to advance up to three soil borings at the site for the collection of soil samples and
completion of ground water monitoring wells.A truck-mounted,hollow-stem drill rig equipped with
8.25-inch hollow-stem augers will be utilized to advance the borings to approximately 70 feet bsg;
the total depth of each well boring may vary according to hydrogeologic/geologic conditions
encountered during drilling. Initially, one boring will be advanced immediately north of the former
dispenser island area.If necessary, two additional borings will be advanced near the former UST area
and southwest of the former dispenser area.
During the first phase of work, one soil boring will be advanced, sampled and completed as a ground
water monitoring well. Two additional soil borings will be completed as ground water monitoring
wells if sampling of the first well indicates the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in ground water.
Soil samples for laboratory analysis will be selected based on visual observations of petroleum
hydrocarbon impact, organic vapor meter (OVM) readings, changes in lithology, and/or at the
capillary fringe. Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California DHS-certified
laboratory for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Methods 3550/8015 Modified; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylene (BTEX) and di-isopropyl ether (DIPE),
ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE),methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE),tertiary-amyl methyl
ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), methanol, ethanol, ethylene dibromide (EDB) and
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260.
Laboratory reports of soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report
3.3. MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION, DEVELOPMENT AND SURVEY
Each soil boring will be completed as a single-level ground water monitoring wells screened from
approximately 50 to 70 feet bsg. Following installation, each well will be developed to maximize
water flow and minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping
or bailing, and the top of each existing and newly installed well casing(well head)will be surveyed
to determine its elevation relative to mean sea level. Procedures for well installation, development
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
