90189H-APH CON-10
• To monitor public concerns and information needs so that community
relations techniques may be modified as necessary
These objectives are the basis of the community relations efforts that
began with circulation of the draft Remedial Action Plan in August, 1988,
and will continue through completion of the selected remedial actions.
They were derived from DHS policy, and from issues and concerns identified
in preparation of this Plan. Because the cleanup process is already at the
stage of public comment on a draft Remedial Action Plan, the community
relations effort will focus on proposed and completed cleanup activities
rather than on past investigations.
Throughout the discussion, it should be understood that where work is
to be performed by Lika, it will actually be performed by Lika' s contractor
WCC, and where work or oversight is to be performed by OHS, it will be
performed by the DHS Project Manager or other DHS staff.
4.2 Techniques
1. To provide interested community members with timely information
about findings at the site, and about proposed and completed remedial
actions.
All segments of the community requested that they be kept informed
about findings at the site and cleanup activities. Generally, the requests
were for non-technical information. Specific requests were made for a fact
sheet to be issued when the cleanup is completed. There was little
interest expressed in the scheduled public meeting for discussion of the
draft RAP. Only the neighboring businesses and property owners who had
specific concerns about worker safety or future property sales asked for
technical findings. They were provided with copies of the draft RAP.
H-11
