Mr. Greg Vaughn Project No. OC42-001.20
April 11, 1995
Page 2
completed in shallower water-bearing zones. The well cluster approach allows evaluation
of groundwater conditions, vertical groundwater gradients, and analytical data for the
water-bearing zones.
Ten proposed areas for assessment activities are presented on Drawing 1. Proposed
activities for each area are summarized on Table 1. Four areas located between Stork
Road and Port Road 23 are proposed for installation of groundwater monitoring wells. Six
locations east of Port Road 23 are proposed for installation of monitoring wells to confirm
phase II data, or for additional assessment and possible monitoring well installation
locations. Exact locations for investigation activities will be determined following STTC
and POS discussions regarding off-site access.
PREFIELD ACTIVITIES
Prefield activities will consist of meeting with POS officials to present data and rationale
for the assessment activities, and scheduling activities, if access is granted.
If access is granted, EMCON will schedule utility clearance and obtain drilling permits
from the San Joaquin County Public Health Department. EMCON will schedule CPT and
drilling contractors and arrange for necessary equipment and materials.
CONE PENETROMETER TESTING
EMCON proposes to conduct a CPT program in areas downgradient of phase II CPT
locations (east of Port Road 23) for purposes of identifying C- and D-zone sand units.
CPTs are proposed for five locations to define stratigraphy to depths of 100 to 120 feet
below ground surface. This will allow correlation of stratigraphic data with previously
collected information and determining the lateral and vertical extent of sand units. Sand
units will be targeted for HydroPunch groundwater sampling and monitoring well
installation.
Data gathering methods and decontamination procedures will be consistent with the
procedures used in the interim pollution assessment. A description of the equipment and
procedures is included in the Interim Pollution Assessment Report (EMCON, February
1992). Upon completion, CPT borings will be grouted to ground surface using a bentonite
grout tremied from the base of the boring.
SAM*.\PJMC42\OC420012.OES-94VIb:3
